Effects of education policies on the classroom
What measures did countries take for educational continuity? The solutions adopted depended on pre-existing infrastructure capacities and available content to build a rapid distance education model.
Chile, for its part, made a strong deployment of academic content (e.g. texts, guides and digital libraries), and began to distribute it by different means, from its educational portal to the printing of booklets in local media.
The Bahamas is increasing internet access so that all students can access the government’s digital learning platform, which will have new content and livestream classes, as well as printed materials where connectivity is not available.
The challenge for countries has been to prioritize curricular content and disseminate it through mass media to reach the entire student population in a timely manner. The unidirectional educational content transmission channels, such as TV, radio, digital material and printed material should be complemented with communication channels that bring students and teachers closer together. Most countries chose to combine these different channels, including learning platforms, digital content, TV, radio and physical material (see graph), since, with the exception of Uruguay, most were not prepared to provide all classes through digital platforms to all their students.
